A Seminar-Training on Eco-Sustainability in Gastronomy Held in Karakalpakstan
On February 20, 2026, a seminar-training titled “Eco-Sustainability and Responsible Consumption in Gastronomy” was held in Karakalpakstan.
The event took place within the framework of the “QR Gastronomic Quality” project, aimed at assessing and improving the gastronomic quality of tourism services in order to enhance the region’s tourist attractiveness.
The project is being implemented under a social order of the Public Fund for the Support of Civil Society Institutions under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The seminar was organized by the public association DMO Karakalpakstan (Destination Management Organization of Karakalpakstan).
Participants of the seminar included owners and staff of restaurants and cafés, artisans, professors, lecturers, and students of the Department of Economics, Tourism and Business Management of the Faculty of Economics of Berdakh Karakalpak State University, as well as representatives of gastronomic and tourism projects.
During the seminar, key issues of eco-sustainability in gastronomy were discussed, including the environmental footprint of the restaurant business, international experience in implementing “green” practices, the use of local and seasonal products, and tools for reducing food and non-food waste. Special attention was given to zero-waste practices, eco-friendly packaging, and cooperation with local producers.
In the practical session, participants developed individual plans for implementing eco-sustainable solutions aimed at building an environmentally responsible image and fostering sustainable practices in the region’s gastronomic and tourism sectors.
The seminar made a significant contribution to the development of sustainable gastronomy and the tourism potential of Karakalpakstan, as well as to promoting a culture of responsible consumption and supporting local businesses.
