DMO Karakalpakstan and GIZ Conducted Seminars on Tourism Development in Karakalpakstan

On the 27th and 28th of October,2025, seminars organized by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in cooperation with DMO Karakalpakstan were held in Karakalpakstan.

On October 27, the seminar “Community-Based Tourism: Social Innovation” took place, focusing on the development of Community-Based Tourism (CBT) and gastronomic tourism. The opening remarks were delivered by M. Kosnazarov, Director of DMO Karakalpakstan, who emphasized the importance of supporting tourism initiatives involving local communities.

The seminar was conducted by international tourism and regional development consultant Eike Otto, who presented methods for developing CBT and gastronomic tourism, providing practical recommendations to improve service quality and attract tourists. Participants, including employees of "DMO KARAKALPAKSTAN" and members of the youth club organized by the society as well as representatives of travel agencies, learned about the principles of designing city tours, identifying key routes, pricing strategies, and tour promotion.

As part of the program, participants visited tourist sites in Nukus and the Kegeyli district: Aysanem Shop, a beekeeping farm, and Muxabbat tortlari. At the end of the visits, participants received recommendations on tourism and entrepreneurship development, noting the potential of local initiatives.

On the second day, October 28, the seminar “Organizing City Tours in Nukus” was held at the DMO Karakalpakstan office, also conducted by Eike Otto. Participants studied the principles of city tour development and promotion, identified key routes and sites, and visited the Mosaic near the Tashkent Hotel, the House of Artistic Culture, and the Allayar Dosnazarov Garden.

As a result, participants developed a preliminary concept for a mini-city tour and prepared proposals to improve infrastructure and enhance the city’s attractiveness to tourists.

Both seminars represented an important step in promoting cultural, gastronomic, and urban tourism and strengthening Karakalpakstan’s potential as a dynamically developing tourist region.
