From 11 to 13 September 2026, the Aral Assembly was held in Nukus as a three-day platform bringing together experts, community representatives, youth and activists for an open dialogue on the present and future of the Aral Sea region.

On the first day, held at the I. V. Savitsky State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, DMO Karakalpakstan Director Mels Kosnazarov participated in the discussion “Infrastructure for the Development of the Aral Sea Region: Environment, Health and Communities.”

The discussion focused on the relationship between environmental and climate change, public health, living conditions and the sustainable development of local communities. He presented the activities and ongoing projects of DMO Karakalpakstan, highlighting the importance of environmental awareness, youth development and creating new opportunities for communities across the region.

The second day took place at the Aral School as part of the public discussion “Water and Practices for the Future,” bringing together Aral School alumni and experts.

The discussion focused on water not only as a natural resource, but also as the foundation of ecosystems, community life, culture and the future development of the Aral Sea region.

DMO Karakalpakstan Director M. Kosnazarov served as the moderator of the discussion “Water and Practices for the Future.”

Participants shared diverse yet complementary perspectives on regional development, climate resilience, community engagement, international cooperation, public administration and water policy.

The discussion was held in an open and substantive format. Active exchange of views and questions from participants helped explore key issues concerning the future of the Aral Sea region from different perspectives.
