Regional Tourism with a Global Focus: Outcomes of the Seminar-Training by DMO Karakalpakstan
From May 12 to 16, the public association "DMO Karakalpakstan", in collaboration with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), held a seminar-training on the topic: “Global Solutions to Local Problems: APPLYING INTERNATIONAL TOURISM EXPERIENCE IN A REGIONAL CONTEXT”.
During the event, participants thoroughly examined current global trends in tourism such as sustainable development and digitalization. Special attention was given to analyzing the applicability of best international practices in destination management, as well as the development of ecotourism, ethnotourism, and event tourism in the context of Karakalpakstan. The training sessions covered successful international case studies in tourism and digital innovations, providing participants with practical knowledge and tools for their future work.
Throughout the interactive sessions, participants actively exchanged ideas on how to adapt international experience to local conditions. They proposed innovative approaches and projects aimed at improving existing tourist sites and creating new recreational areas that combine modern standards with the region’s natural and historical-cultural heritage. These initiatives aim not only to support the development of tourism in Karakalpakstan but also to increase the region’s appeal for both domestic and international tourists.
As a result of the training, specific proposals were developed for the advancement of the tourism sector in Karakalpakstan and for enhancing the competencies of specialists—laying the foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity in the region.
