The official visit of the DMO Karakalpakstan delegation to Kuala Lumpur has entered a new stage. Representatives of DMO Karakalpakstan and the restaurant industry of Karakalpakstan visited the main office of Tourism Malaysia, where they held a meeting with Deputy Director Azmi bin Abdullah.
The Malaysian side presented the activities of Tourism Malaysia, introduced the country’s tourism potential, shared its experience in promoting Malaysian tourism internationally, and gave the delegation a tour of the office and the Tourist Information Centre. Particular attention was paid to the phenomenon of Malaysian street food - one of the key factors attracting millions of tourists from around the world.
Malaysia’s Razaidi Abd Rahim also took part in the meeting. For their part, the delegation presented the tourism potential of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan, highlighting the region’s natural, cultural and gastronomic heritage.
The meeting quickly moved from introductions to practical solutions. The sides agreed to explore internship opportunities in Malaysia for hospitality and restaurant professionals from Karakalpakstan, enabling them to gain experience in international service and gastronomy standards.
Cooperation also continued in an informal setting. The Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia’s International Promotion Department joined the delegation for a dinner and discussion with Hafizan Binti Arif, CEO of the renowned restaurant Meriah, part of Serai Group - one of the region’s largest restaurant groups, bringing together 35 successful restaurants.
This comprehensive approach generated strong practical interest from the Malaysian side. At the conclusion of the visit, representatives of Tourism Malaysia received flyers and brochures from tourism companies in Karakalpakstan, which will serve as a basis for further promotion of the region and the development of new tourism routes between Malaysia and Uzbekistan.
The visit marked an important step toward strengthening international partnerships, developing gastronomic tourism, and creating new opportunities for the tourism industry of Karakalpakstan.
